Hospital opens new accessibility ramps
Brockville General Hospital’s newest accessibility ramp, located at the Ormond Street entrance. BGH reminds the public that this is not a designated drop-off zone for patients or visitors. To drop-off passengers, the public must do so at the temporary main entrance, located off the Charles Street.

Brockville, ON, November 7, 2019 - Getting in and out of the Brockville General Hospital (BGH)’s Charles Street site building just got a little bit easier, thanks to two new accessibility ramps.

“These ramps provide better access to our building for those with limited mobility,” said Nick Vlacholias, President and CEO. “Automatic door openers and safety crosswalks make these entry ways into our building fully accessible for all of our people.”

The two new ramps are part of several renovations to the Charles Street site in preparation of the new patient tower, which is scheduled to open in 2020. One ramp is located in the emergency and visitor parking lot, for easier access to the Emergency Department. A second, new entrance is available off Ormond Street.

With the Ormond Street entrance now fully accessible, Vlacholias stresses the importance for those visiting BGH to remember that this entrance is not a designated drop-off zone. Any patients or visitors who need to be dropped off, must use the temporary main entrance located off of Charles Street.

“Our new Ormond Street entrance is designed to ease foot traffic into the building and provide quick access for those who park in our Emergency and Visitor parking lot,” explained Vlacholias. “The emergency vehicle lane off Ormond Street, which leads directly to our Emergency Department entrance, is designated for quick access for ambulances, fire and police. We ask for the public’s help in keeping traffic flowing in this lane, please.”

BGH asks that no vehicles stop in the emergency lane because the lane provides quick access to our Emergency Department during an emergency.

If you need to drop-off passengers or only require parking for a short amount of time, please use the designated drop-off zone and the short-term parking lot, both located near the temporary main entrance, located off of Charles Street.
