Telethon presents $250,000 for Palliative Care

Brockville, ON – November 25, 2020 – On November 24, during a small outdoor ceremony, lead organizers of the 30-Hour Telethon for Palliative Care presented a cheque for $250,000 to Brockville General Hospital and the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation.

“With everything happening in the world, we’re so proud that our community hasn’t lost sight of supporting those who use the palliative care services,” shared Wayne Blackwell, co-chair of the 2020 telethon, which took place in February 2020.

“The support has been incredible. I’m so grateful to our dedicated committee and the community for enabling us to surpass last year’s tally of $225,000, despite these extraordinary times.”

The brief cheque presentation took place outside BGH’s Donald B. Green Tower, where the Palliative Care program has relocated from the Garden Street site.

Blackwell was joined by Bruce Wylie, fellow co-chair; Maureen Lapinskas, treasurer; Nicole Gibson, Palliative Care Consult Nurse at BGH; Nick Vlacholias, President and CEO of BGH; and Marilies Rettig, Chair of the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation.

“As we all navigate COVID-19, our planning group is looking at delaying the telethon until mid-spring,” said Wylie. “We need to keep all of our many volunteers and supporters safe.”
