Family Medicine at Brockville General
The Department of Family Medicine at Brockville General Hospital offers a range of services within the hospital and the community. Department members can practice in a variety of models in our collegial team-based environment. Sample opportunities include but are not limited to the following.
Hospitalists |
Family physicians working as part of our Hospitalist Program are responsible for covering approximately 15 to 20 patients per day including acute medical and surgical patients as well as rehabilitation patients and those awaiting ALC. There are also opportunities for family physicians to combine a part-time hospitalist role within a part-time community-based practice within family health teams. |
Internists |
Internists provide clinical support for the Emergency Department and the Hospitalist Program and participate in ICU rotation. Brockville General experiences more than 4,500 acute care admissions annually, with 29,000 Emergency Department visits per year. In addition, the hospital is supported by key services including stress testing, cardiac echocardiogram, PFT lab, stroke prevention and cardiac rehabilitation programs, as well as a new MRI. |
Palliative Care |
Family practitioners can support palliative care, providing MRP care for patients, maintaining a dedicated call schedule as well as providing pain and symptom management to improve end of life care and transitions. |
Community Practice |
Family physicians can support Brockville General and develop a part-time community-based practice within the community. As an example, Brockville’s Upper Canada Family Health Team is comprised of a group of health care professionals working collaboratively to provide comprehensive and accessible health care. Physicians interested in setting up a clinical practice in Brockville will be supported and welcomed throughout the community. |
Team-Based Culture
Brockville General delivers health care to a catchment area of more than 250,000 people and is the largest hospital in Leeds, Lanark, and Grenville County. The Department of Family Medicine is comprised of a dynamic group of professionals who value patient-centred care, learning and development opportunities, as well as a culture that synergizes teamwork and a commitment to excellence.
