LifeLabs
If you have been instructed to get testing done by the Ministry of Health, your physician or nurse practitioner, and have not been referred to the hospital’s laboratory by Brockville General Hospital, you must use LifeLabs testing services or a facility near their residence. In Brockville, Lifelabs is found at 2211 Parkedale Ave. Unit 4.
Location
Our laboratory services are used by our inpatients and clinic patients who require testing. The laboratory waiting area is located on the ground floor of our Charles Street main site in the main atrium corridor.
Hours of operation
The laboratory’s pre-operative and specimen collection services are available Mondays to Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
Our Services
Our laboratory services include,
Biochemistry |
Our biochemistry team tests blood and other body fluids to monitor and diagnose a variety of conditions. These tests can assess the function of organs like the liver and kidneys, or systems like respiratory or cardiac. |
Blood bank |
The BGH blood bank performs tests to find compatible blood for patients when they need a transfusion. We store a variety of blood components on site which come from Canadian Blood Services in Ottawa.
If you are interested in donating blood, visit our donate blood page. |
Hematology |
Hematology tests can be used to indicate, diagnose, and evaluate many conditions, including infection, inflammation, and anemia. Coagulation testing assesses your blood’s ability to clot. |
Histopathology |
When patients have samples of tissue surgically removed, a pathologist examines them under a microscope to assess the health or disease state of the tissue. |
Microbiology |
Microbiology testing helps doctors determine whether patients have an infection and then to decide on how best to treat it. |
Regional integration
Our laboratory services have integrated with those of the Southeastern Ontario Academic Medical Organization and the Kingston Health Science Centre’s (KHSC) laboratory.
This integration ensures that you have access to state-of-the-art testing technology and a fully specialized medical team. It also reduces turnaround time for our critical pathology tests to support timely patient care. We collect microbiology and pathology specimens at our main site and then transport them to Kingston for analysis and receive quick results.
Licensing and accreditation
Our laboratory is a fully accredited, licensed hospital laboratory. Our laboratory license is issued by the Ministry of Health and our accreditation certificate is issued by Accreditation Canada.
