Mammography and Ontario Breast Screening
Breast cancers start small but can be detected through current best practices. Let our team of experienced Technologists and Radiologists guide you through this process.
Screening and Diagnostic Mammograms
Clients requiring a screening or diagnostic mammogram need to contact their primary health care provider. The physician’s office will fax the requisition to the Mammography Booking Office and we will call you to schedule an appointment.
Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP)
The Ontario Breast Screening Program is a self-referral program for women aged 40 to 74 with no breast issues. Clients can call the OBSP department directly at the phone number below. Appointments are available Tuesdays to Fridays.
Preparing for your mammogram
Please review the following guidelines:
- Do not wear scented products.
- Do not use body powder, creams, or deodorant on the day of your appointment
- Please wear a two-piece outfit.
Arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment time to register at the Central Registration Desk. You will need to provide your health card. You will be directed to the Mammography Department after the check-in process is complete. If you are late, your appointment may need to be rescheduled for another date.
Exams are quick and usually take less than 15 minutes to complete.
The mammography exam requires firm compression of your breast. This may be uncomfortable for some. We suggest clients have their mammogram appointments after the start of their monthly menses.
You may require additional imaging after the initial mammogram. If this is required, Brockville General's Bookings Department will call you to set up an appointment.
