MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive test used by healthcare workers to diagnose and treat medical conditions. Brockville General currently provides MRI scans for outpatients.
An MRI machine uses a powerful magnet to create detailed pictures of organs, soft tissues, bones, and other structures inside the body. When the MRI machine is turned on, you'll notice that it is quite noisy. That noise is the sound of electrical currents in the wires of the magnet. While it can be loud, it won't hurt and you won't be able to feel the magnetic field.
Your physician will send your MRI requisition to the Diagnostic Imaging department and our team will provide you with your appointment time.
Location
We offer MRI scans at our Charles Street main site. Please check in at the registration desk the day of your appointment.
Preparing for your MRI scan
Because the machine is a big magnet, you'll be asked to change into a hospital gown and remove all jewelry and any other types of metal before you enter the room. You'll be asked to stay perfectly still during the exam so that we can get a clear image. Even something simple like a cough can cause the image to be distorted.
