Palliative Care Program
Brockville General Hospital’s Palliative Care Program helps patients and families who are coping with a life-limiting illness. The Palliative Care team of specialists provides compassionate care to help meet the physical, psychological and spiritual needs of you and your family, and provides comfort measures, companionship, respite and transportation.
Location
Our Palliative Care Program is located at the Charles Street main site. Palliative care also takes place in the community, such as long-term care homes, retirement homes and the homes of our patients.
Our team consists of:
- Palliative Care physicians
- Palliative Care consult nurses – Experienced and caring nurses who provide consultations in pain and symptom management.
- Volunteers
- Bereavement support – A service that provides support and education to bereaved families and friends of patients cared for by the Palliative Care Consult Team.
- Day Hospice – A weekly day program offering participants an opportunity for social interaction, therapies, recreation activities, emotional support and consultation with Palliative Care nurses.

Consult nurses
Contact our hospital’s consultation nurses if you need assessment, counseling, or to consult in pain and symptom management. The nurses will work collaboratively with your primary health care team. You can reach the Coordinator of Consult Nurses at 613-345-5649 ext. 52170.
Volunteer team
If you are looking to contact our hospital’s volunteer team for comfort measures, companionship, respite, transportation or other supports in the community or hospital, please contact our Coordinator of Community Volunteers at 613-345-5649 ext. 52170.
Our volunteers are caring and passionate individuals who give their time, talent and energy to helping others in the service. They have all received a minimum of 30 hours of hospice palliative care training. We also have a dedicated team of clerical volunteers who support the team with necessary office and library work.
Bereavement support
Contact our Bereavement Coordinator at 613-345-5649 ext. 52174. Our bereavement services are dedicated to support families and friends of those receiving care by our Palliative Care Consult Team. Our bereavement services include:
- Visiting and telephone support
- Weekly grief walking group
- Weekly coffee group
- Living with loss support group: six session, bi-weekly support
- Annual celebration of life
- Psychotherapeutic support (6-8 sessions)

Community Support
