Stroke Prevention Clinic
Through the Stroke Network of Eastern Ontario, Brockville General Hospital hosts one of four stroke prevention clinics in Southeastern Ontario. The other sites are located in Kingston, Perth and Belleville. The role of each clinic is to:
- provide streamlined access to diagnostic testing, optimal medical and surgical management and counseling in lifestyle change to reduce stroke-risk for those at highest risk of stroke (e.g. recent transient ischemic attack).
- provide an integrated, comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to stroke prevention and case management for these high-risk patients
- facilitate planning and implementation of primary and secondary stroke prevention strategies for the respective area of the region
- work in partnership with primary care, acute care, stroke rehabilitation, community care access centres and other stake-holders in planning regional stroke prevention strategies

Integrated Stroke Unit
The Integrated Stroke Unit’s specialized health care team will work with you and your family to determine the steps for your recovery and your plan for returning home. We make sure that you have facts you need and the right care at the right time during your stay in our Integrated Stroke Unit.

Location
Brockville General Hospital’s inpatient stroke care services are located within the Integrate Stroke Unit which is on the second floor of the Donald B. Green Tower.
To get to the Integrated Stroke Unit you can take the elevators located to the left once you pass through the main entrance of the hospital. Once on level two, go to the right and enter through the double doors (after 9 p.m. please use the intercom to gain access to the unit). If you arrive to the hospital after 10:30 p.m., please enter through the Emergency Department.

Your specialized healthcare team
Our many health care professionals work together as team to provide you with an individualized best-practice care plan. Our partnership with Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital allows us to give you the care and knowledge to help you recover from a stroke. Our team includes a specialized team of doctors, nurses, therapists, and more.
Symptoms of stroke
Dial 9-1-1 right away if you or a family member have any of the following symptoms:
- Drooping face
- Slurred speech
- Unable to raise your arms above your head
Tests and assessments
We conduct a number of tests and assessments to determine the:
- Type of stroke experienced;
- Location of the stroke;
- Effects of the stroke;
- Risk factors for another stroke; and
- Appropriate treatment.
