Julie’s Community Updates: September 25, 2026
This week, I’ve been reflecting on the many ways our community comes together, to honour our shared history, celebrate creativity and compassion, and recognize the people who make a difference every day. From moments of learning and remembrance to events that connect and inspire us, there is a lot happening at Brockville General. I want to share a few of those stories with you.
- Next week, we recognize National Truth and Reconciliation Day. Commemorating this day is an opportunity to honour survivors and deepen our understanding of the history and impact of residential schools.
At Brockville General, we support our Indigenous friends, family and neighbours. Our hospital is located on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Omàmìwininìwag (Algonquin), Ho-de-no-sau-nee-ga (Haudenosaunee) peoples.
We also encourage you to learn more about our land’s rich history, and the impact on Indigenous Peoples - https://www.rcaanc-cirnac.gc.ca/eng/1621447127773/1621447157184
- Last week, Brockville General hosted Compass One’s second annual Great Plate Off. Compass is our partner responsible for developing and preparing patient food at our hospital. Teams from Brockville General, Cornwall Community Hospital, Kemptville District Hospital, and The Ottawa Hospital were challenged to make Halloween-inspired dishes using only ingredients available through the Compass order guide and they had to stay within a set budget.
It was an exciting event to bring together chefs from hospitals across the region to create inventive and Halloween-inspired meals for patients. Patients admitted to one of the participating hospitals will be served the winning meal on October 31.
You can read the full story about the Plate Off on our website.
- On September 25, our Assault Response and Care Centre (ARCC) team are taking part in the Take Back The Night Brockville 2026. The goal of this annual event is to raise awareness about sexual violence and create visible communities of support for survivors. The walk will begin at 6 p.m. at Brockville City Hall and end at Blockhouse Island.
- With October fast approaching, we’re excited to be able to recognize several of our hard-working teams during their national recognition months.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time to recognize our dedicated Mammography team but also serves as a good reminder for our community to get regularly screened for breast cancer. In Ontario, women aged 40 and older can self-refer for a mammogram. More information is available on our website - Mammography and Ontario Breast Screening | Brockville General Hospital
Occupational Therapy Month reminds us of all that Occupational Therapists (OTs) do in helping Canadians overcome physical, mental and cognitive barriers. With the help of OTs, Canadians can participate fully in the activities that mean the most to them.
Medical Ultrasound Awareness Week (Oct 6 – 10) is a time to recognize the highly skilled professionals who play an essential role in patient diagnosis and care. At Brockville General, our sonographers bring together technical expertise, clinical insight, and compassion in every patient interaction.
