2025 Team and Team Member of the Year awards announced
On November 26, staff, physicians, learners, and volunteers gathered to celebrate the Workplace Happiness Action Team (WHAT) Team and Team Member of the Year awards. The annual event recognizes individuals and teams from across our hospital who exemplify collaboration, compassion, and excellence in patient care.
Team of the Year: Ambulatory Care Unit Team and Ambulatory Care Unit Volunteers
This year, the spotlight shines on the Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) and its dedicated volunteer team, who were jointly honored as Team of the Year. The ACU team was nominated by their volunteers, the ACU Volunteers were in turn nominated by the ACU team.
The ACU is more than a unit, it’s a hub of hope and healing. From day medical treatments and cancer care to outpatient clinics, the team delivers exceptional care to thousands of patients each year.
As Rod, ACU Volunteer, points out in his nomination video, “every shift I see examples of exceptional teamwork, patient care, and family support.”
In their nomination video, ACU staff mentioned the comfort the volunteers bring in the simplest yet most meaningful ways.
“They provide comfort in the form of warm blankets, care in the form of tea and cookies, and compassion in the way of a kind smile and conversation.”
Together, the ACU team and volunteers embody the spirit of excellence and community that defines Brockville General.
Team Member of the Year: Melinda Billett, Nurse Practitioner
The Team Member of the Year award was presented to Melinda Billett, Nurse Practitioner in Mental Health on the Concurrent Disorders Stabilization Unit (CDSU).
Melinda has been a cornerstone of the CDSU since its inception. In their nomination video, Mackenzie, Registered Nurse and Jes, Peer Support Worker, highlight Melinda’s ability to ensure patient care is holistic, respectful, and centred on the individual.
“Melinda hasn’t just done her job—she has redefined what it means to be a healthcare professional,” says Mackenzie.
Jes adds, “For Melinda, it’s never just about treating symptoms, it’s about caring for the whole person.”
Her leadership inspires her team to adopt principles of humanism and compassion, creating an environment where both patients and staff thrive. As Mackenzie says, “she doesn’t just achieve excellence—she inspires it in all of us.”
